Here at EverLine Electrical we cover the full range of domestic electrical work, from a single socket to a complete rewire. We work in houses, flats, period properties, new builds, extensions and conversions across Brighton, Hove and the surrounding areas — and we approach a small job with the same care as a large one.
We also provide comprehensive EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Reports) for homeowners, landlords and homebuyers to ensure full safety and legal compliance. Every installation and inspection is carried out to the current standards of the BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations, tested on completion and issued with the appropriate certification. Where the work is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, we take care of the notification for you.
A rewire replaces the cabling, accessories and protective devices in your home, bringing the installation up to current standards. It is the right answer when wiring has reached the end of its serviceable life, when a property still has rubber, lead or fabric-sheathed cable, or when an older installation cannot support how a modern household uses electricity. A full rewire covers the whole property; a partial rewire targets only the circuits or areas that need attention, and is frequently the more sensible option. We agree socket and switch positions before we start, keep chasing to a minimum, and certify the work on completion.
Not every job needs a project plan. Additional sockets, a new outdoor socket, replacement switches and accessories, extractor fans, moving a light fitting, adding a spur for a new appliance, or connecting a cooker or shower — these are the everyday jobs that make a home work properly, and we are happy to take them on. Small does not mean casual: minor works are inspected and tested exactly as larger installations are, and you receive a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate confirming the alteration is safe and compliant with BS 7671.
A dedicated home charge point is faster, safer and far more convenient than charging from a three-pin socket. We install charge points on driveways, in garages, on external walls and in off-street parking spaces, each on its own circuit with the protection BS 7671 requires. Before quoting we check the things that actually decide whether an installation will work: your incoming supply capacity, the condition and spare capacity of the consumer unit, the earthing arrangement and the cable route. We will talk you through tethered and untethered units, cable lengths and smart charging, and certify the installation on completion.
Garden offices, workshops, summer houses, sheds, garages, and annexes require a tailored design and a dedicated power supply—not an extension lead run through a window. We handle the complete electrical design and planning of the build, ensuring every layout matches your specific power, lighting, and layout requirements. From installing armoured underground supplies from the main house to fitting a dedicated distribution board, we deliver full internal and external lighting, sockets, heating connections, and data provision. We also design and install garden lighting, outdoor sockets, security and floodlighting, hot tub connections, and power supplies for automated gates and outdoor equipment. Outdoor work brings unique demands—cable depth, mechanical protection, IP-rated accessories, and correct RCD protection—all fully covered by the certification you receive.
The consumer unit is the heart of your installation and its most important safety component. Older boards with rewireable fuses or no RCD protection cannot offer the protection required today, and are often the limiting factor when adding a shower, an EV charger or a garden supply. A modern unit provides RCD or RCBO protection, surge protection where appropriate, a metal enclosure and clear circuit identification. An upgrade is more than a board swap: we test the existing circuits first, because sensitive new devices reveal faults an old fuse board tolerated, and we price any remedial work before proceeding.
Whether you are fitting out a new kitchen, refurbishing a bathroom, converting a loft or simply tired of one pendant and a single double socket, we design and install lighting and power that suits how the space is actually used. That covers downlights and LED upgrades, under-cabinet and feature lighting, bathroom lighting to the correct IP rating, dimming and multi-way switching, external and security lighting, additional sockets and circuits, USB outlets, and dedicated supplies for ovens, hobs, showers and electric heating. Swapping older fittings for LED is among the simplest ways to cut a household’s consumption.
Intermittent faults are frustrating, and they are the jobs most often quoted vaguely and fixed badly. A breaker that trips occasionally, a light that flickers, sockets that have stopped working, a burning smell near an accessory, an RCD that trips whenever the washing machine runs — each has a specific cause, and finding it needs systematic testing rather than guesswork. We use calibrated instruments to isolate the fault to a circuit, then a section, then the component at fault, and explain what caused it. Where a fault points to a wider problem, we say so rather than patching over it.
An EICR is a formal inspection and test of an existing installation. It records its condition, identifies damage, deterioration, defects and departures from the current standard, and states whether the installation is satisfactory for continued use. Issues are coded C1 (danger present), C2 (potentially dangerous), C3 (improvement recommended) or FI (further investigation required); any C1, C2 or FI makes the report unsatisfactory. People typically need one when letting, buying, selling or insuring a property, and landlords in England must have one at least every five years. We explain the findings in plain language.
That depends on the age and condition of the existing wiring. In many properties, particularly where some work has been done over the years, a partial rewire deals with the problem areas and leaves sound circuits in place. We will inspect and test what is there and give you an honest recommendation. If a partial rewire is sufficient, we will tell you.
As a general guide, a typical three-bedroom house takes around five to ten working days, though this varies considerably with the size of the property, whether it is occupied, whether floors are accessible and how much making good is involved. We will give you a realistic timescale with your quotation.
For an owner-occupied home, an inspection at least every ten years is the general recommendation. For rented property it is every five years, or at change of tenancy, and this is a legal requirement for landlords in England. It is also sensible to have an inspection when buying a property, or if the installation has not been looked at for some years.
Yes — what is commonly referred to as a “landlord electrical safety certificate” is an Electrical Installation Condition Report. Landlords in England must have one carried out at least every five years and supply a copy to tenants and, on request, to the local authority.
Not always, but it does need to be assessed. We check whether there is spare capacity, whether the existing protective devices are suitable, and whether the earthing arrangement is appropriate. If an upgrade is needed we will explain why and include it in the quotation rather than raising it halfway through the installation.
Most jobs begin with a problem rather than a specification — a breaker that keeps tripping, a kitchen short of sockets, a business that has outgrown its board. We work out what you actually need first.
For anything beyond a straightforward repair we visit the property, inspect the existing installation and check what is already there. That is what lets us give you an accurate price rather than an optimistic one.
You receive a written quotation setting out the scope and the cost. If something unexpected turns up mid-job, which older properties often throw up, we stop, explain it and agree the way forward with you.
Floors and furniture are protected, dust is kept under control and the site is left tidy each evening. In commercial premises we will work around your trading hours wherever it is practical to do so.
Every installation is fully inspected and tested before it is handed over to you, and you receive the appropriate certification confirming the work complies with BS 7671 and is safe to put into service.
Whether you already know exactly what the job involves or you simply know something is not right, we are happy to talk it through. Call us, send an email or use the enquiry form and we will get back to you with clear advice and a free, no-obligation quotation.
