EverLine Electrical works with businesses of all sizes across Brighton, Hove and the surrounding areas — shops and salons, offices and studios, cafés, restaurants and bars, gyms, schools and nurseries, warehouses, workshops and light industrial units.
Commercial work has one requirement that domestic work does not: your premises usually need to carry on operating. We plan accordingly. That means agreeing scope and phasing before we start, isolating only what needs isolating, working outside your trading hours where it is practical, and keeping you informed at every stage so that you can plan around us.
From routine installations to mandatory commercial EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Reports), all work and safety testing is carried out to the current standards of the BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations and certified on completion.
We install and upgrade lighting and power in new premises and in existing buildings being refurbished, reconfigured or brought up to date. That covers fit-outs of new units and change-of-use projects — submains, distribution boards, containment, small power layouts, dedicated machinery supplies, lighting schemes and controls — as well as reconfiguring small power to suit a new layout and adding capacity for new equipment. LED upgrades are among the most reliable investments a business can make, cutting energy and maintenance costs while improving light quality. We can work from a consultant’s drawings or design from your requirements.
Emergency lighting is a legal requirement in commercial premises: under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person must ensure escape routes are adequately illuminated if the supply fails, and that the system is maintained and tested. We design and install systems to BS 5266 covering escape routes, open areas, high-risk task areas, stairwells, final exits, call points and firefighting equipment, using maintained and non-maintained luminaires, exit signage, self-test and central battery systems. We also extend existing systems after a refit and carry out remedial work following a fire risk assessment.
Charging provision is increasingly expected at commercial premises — for staff, for fleet vehicles and for customers, and in some cases because the Building Regulations require it for new build and major renovation. We install single units and multi-point installations for car parks, staff parking and fleet depots. The starting point is always a survey of what your supply can actually sustain: incoming capacity, existing load, distribution arrangements and cable routes. Where the number of charge points would exceed capacity, load management lets several units share a supply intelligently and often avoids an expensive supply upgrade.
Distribution boards have a finite life, and an ageing board is an operational risk as well as a safety one. Obsolete boards for which protective devices are no longer made, boards with no spare ways, boards added to repeatedly without record-keeping, and boards without the protection required today all need addressing before they cause an unplanned shutdown. We replace and upgrade boards and sub-boards, install additional sub-boards where load has grown, provide RCD, RCBO and surge protection where appropriate, and produce accurate circuit schedules. Changeovers are phased around your operating hours so critical circuits stay live.
Electrical faults in commercial premises cost money by the hour — a tripping board that takes out a chiller, a supply that has lost a phase, an intermittent fault on a production line, failed lighting across a floor. We attend, isolate the fault systematically using calibrated instruments, and put a safe solution in place: a proper repair where one can be made immediately, or a safe temporary arrangement with a clear plan for the permanent fix. Where a fault is a symptom of a wider issue, we say so — repeatedly resetting a breaker is not a maintenance strategy.
Yes. Evening, overnight and weekend working is often the most sensible approach for retail, hospitality and offices, and we plan for it wherever it is practical. Let us know your operating hours when you enquire and we will build the programme around them.
Rarely. Most work can be phased so that only part of the installation is isolated at any one time. Where a full shutdown is unavoidable — for a main board changeover, for example — we will identify it early, keep it as short as possible and schedule it at the least disruptive time.
A short function test each month and a full-duration test annually — three hours for most systems. Results must be recorded and the records kept available for inspection. We can advise on what your premises needs and help you set up records that will satisfy an inspecting officer.
It depends on the terms of your lease, but in practice the responsible person under the Fire Safety Order is usually the occupying business for the areas it controls, with the landlord responsible for common parts. If you are unsure, check your lease — and if the answer is still unclear, it is worth resolving before a fire risk assessment raises it for you.
Yes. We are happy to install to a design produced by a consultant, an M&E engineer or an architect, and equally happy to develop a practical installation from your brief where no formal design exists.
Most jobs begin with a problem rather than a specification — a breaker that keeps tripping, a kitchen short of sockets, a business that has outgrown its board. We work out what you actually need first.
For anything beyond a straightforward repair we visit the property, inspect the existing installation and check what is already there. That is what lets us give you an accurate price rather than an optimistic one.
You receive a written quotation setting out the scope and the cost. If something unexpected turns up mid-job, which older properties often throw up, we stop, explain it and agree the way forward with you.
Floors and furniture are protected, dust is kept under control and the site is left tidy each evening. In commercial premises we will work around your trading hours wherever it is practical to do so.
Every installation is fully inspected and tested before it is handed over to you, and you receive the appropriate certification confirming the work complies with BS 7671 and is safe to put into service.
Whether you already know exactly what the job involves or you simply know something is not right, we are happy to talk it through. Call us, send an email or use the enquiry form and we will get back to you with clear advice and a free, no-obligation quotation.
